WE HOPE OUR BELLEVIEW FAMILIES HAVE A GOOD SUMMER BREAK

EBLASTS WILL RESUME IN AUGUST

SUMMER READING 2020

[Hidden image]

The Cherry Creek School District has created a summer reading website to help us through the pandemic. Please encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes on most days this summer. Let your child choose what they want to read and develop their own reading experience.

https://sites.google.com/cherrycreekschools.org/ccsd-summer-reading/elementary?authuser=0

Visit the Belleview Resources & Links page for access to eBooks, audiobooks, and more through OverDrive (Sora).  Students may continue to other use other online reading resources like EpicTumblebooksTrueFlixBookFlix, and RazKids.  We are having a summer book fair too.  See details below.

Finally, if you still have library books checked out that you’d like to return before next school year, you may return them to any open public library system in the local area and they will route them back to us.

This Week at Belleview: April 15, 2020

Message from the Principal

Hello Belleview families –

After four weeks of not seeing and hearing your children I can speak for all of the Belleview staff when I say we truly miss your children.  We miss the noise in cafeteria, we miss watching boys and girls skipping down the hallway going to their Specials class and I personally miss saying good morning to your children as they enter the school to start their morning.

Remote teaching presents challenges that we will continue to rise to meet. Teachers are working hard to provide meaningful lessons while balancing their own lives; including caring for their own families.  Please find the balance of remote learning and what works for you and your family.

During these uncertain times I appreciate quotes like the one below from Emily W King, PhD:
“Parents: What we are being asked to do is not humanly possible. There is a reason we are either a working parent, a stay-at-home parent or a part-time working parent.  Working, parenting and teaching are three different jobs that cannot be done at the same time. It’s not hard because you are doing it wrong. It’s hard because it’s too much. Do the best you can.  When you have to pick, because at some point you will, choose connection. Pick playing a game over arguing about an academic assignment. Pick teaching your child to do laundry rather than feeling frustrated that they aren’t helping. Pick laughing, and snuggling, and reminding them that they are safe.  If you are stressed, lower your expectations where you can and virtually reach out for social connection. We are in this together to stay well. That means mentally well, too.”

Here are a couple things to be aware of –

  • The online auction has been cancelled this Spring.  Parents Council has asked that all PTCO activities throughout the district be cancelled for the rest of the school year.
  • Attached to this email is a letter explaining the process on how class lists are created for the next school year and how we take parent requests.  Requests are due by May 1st.
  • If any family has fallen on financial hardships, please email me at [email protected] .  Your email will be confidential, and we have some resources that can help.
  • I’ve received emails regarding when can student materials be picked up from school.  I don’t have a definitive answer yet.  The district is shooting for the middle or the end of May.

Stay healthy and safe –

John

This Week at Belleview: March 25, 2020

A letter from Belleview’s Principle – John Cramer…

Dear Belleview Community,

I just want to start off by saying “Hi” to all of you. I know I can speak for all the teachers at Belleview in saying we miss your children. We miss their smiles, hugs and fist bumps. Like Dr. Seigfried wrote in his letter, I want to thank all of you for your patience and support as we navigate through these uncharted waters together. We had a virtual staff meeting yesterday morning and I came away in awe of all the teacher’s high level of commitment to ensure that your children will have an amazing experience the next couple of weeks. As we start getting ready for the beginning of remote learning next week, I want to share some information with you.

Remote Learning Information:

 Teachers are working this week to prepare to shift to a remote learning model. They have been gathering resources, brushing up on remote learning lesson delivery, and thinking about what students need to be successful online.

 Expect to receive information from your child’s teachers by Thursday.

 Remote learning begins Monday, March 30th. Assignments will be shared by 2:00 pm.

District Resource Information:

 As we begin, if your child does not have access to technology, please let us know right away. Click on this Technology Needs Survey: https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/5515092/CCSD-Remote-Learning-Technology-Needs-Survey so we can assess your technology needs. You can email Marie Stevenson at [email protected] or call the school voicemail 720-554-3120. In the message please leave these important details: parent first and last name, student(s) first and last name, phone #, address, student(s)date of birth, and whether you have/have no internet AND computer at home.

 Mental Health support can be found at https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/Page/12094

 Breakfast, Lunch, and a Book will continue for all children 18 and under. Click the link for times and locations. https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/freemeals

 Additional information can be found at Coronavirus FAQ’s

As we begin this journey together, I am asking that we all have grace for each other at all levels. We are asking our families, students and staff to create something that has never been done before. If you have questions or concerns, please email your child’s teacher or me and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Hug your children for us and stay healthy

– John

also…A letter from Dr. Scott A.Siegfried…

Dear Cherry Creek School Community,

The world is a dramatically different place than it was just weeks ago. I want to thank all of you for your patience and support as we navigate the new uncharted territory of this COVID-19 pandemic crisis. My team and I continue to meet virtually every single day to monitor the situation, review updates from public health officials and find ways to meet the needs of our 55,000 students.

As we enter this first week after spring break, I wanted to share information on our current planning regarding multiple items:

REMOTE LEARNING:

The Cherry Creek School District will begin remote learning for all students on Monday, March 30, 2020. Our teachers will spend this week acquiring materials and preparing for the delivery of instruction. Our goal is to ensure that lessons are reasonable and meaningful so that students can remain engaged and learning can continue during this time. You or your students will hear from your child’s teachers by Thursday or Friday, March 26th & 27th, with information about their learning plan.

We are committed to creating a remote learning plan that serves all students and provides a reasonable balance for you, your student and their teacher. As part of our planning, we are considering ways to ensure that all students have access to technology and internet service in their homes. We will be sending out a survey via text and email to identify families that are in need of technology in the home.

We are also working on plans to meet the needs of our students who receive special education, English language supports and gifted and talented supports. We will have more information on those plans in the coming days.

It will take some time for teachers to master the use of online instructional technologies and models. Additionally, teachers will need to adjust lesson plans to make learning meaningful and accessible within an age-appropriate remote learning environment. Some of our teachers currently offer assignments and activities online, but that is significantly different than moving all teacher-based instruction and learning to a remote learning environment. We are doing our best to design and implement a new way of teaching and learning in CCSD. Your principal and teachers will provide detail.

I am asking our teachers to shift what has been purposefully developed as a brick-and-mortar operation for the last 70 years into a remote learning environment in four days. I ask for your patience, grace and support as we enter this new phase of excellence in Cherry Creek together.

FOOD BANKS

I am thankful for our Board of Education who has taken the lead on collecting food items for several local food banks that we have agreed to work with in support of our community.  If you are in need of support or are able to support others in our community, more information is available here: https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/Page/12126

BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND A BOOK

Every school day throughout the closure we will provide grab-and-go meals for any and all students 18 and under at 11 sites around the district. For information on sites and times – https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=12101

EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND

The Cherry Creek Schools Foundation, in coordination with the district, has established the Cherry Creek Schools Emergency Relief Fund to aid our students, families and local communities during this crisis. During this continually changing situation, the Foundation is working closely with us to monitor and respond to the areas of greatest need and utilize this fund to help our students, teachers and staff navigate these uncertain times. For information on how to donate to the fund visit https://ccsdfoundation.org/cherry-creek-schools-emergency-relief-fund.html

I have so much confidence in and admiration for our employees – our maintenance staff, bus drivers, office staff, food and nutrition workers, administrators and teachers. I am also in awe of the resilience of our students and the strength and resolve of people and families in our community. I am inspired by the stories I have heard of people helping people during this time of crisis.

We will get through this together. Stay safe. Stay healthy.

Scott A. Siegfried, Ph.D.
Superintendant
